Why Choose Laughing Buddha Comedy? For over 15 years, we’ve been empowering new and aspiring comedians with top-tier stand-up comedy training in the heart of New York City. Unlike other schools, we keep our class sizes intimate, with only 10–15 students, and we offer daily open mics for you to practice what you’ve learned—an essential feature of any great program. Our flagship course is a One-Month Workshop—because honestly, there’s no need for a long, drawn-out six-week program! By the time you showcase your class material, you’ll be part of a vibrant, supportive comedy community, ready to cheer you on as you take the next step in your comedy journey!

OPEN MIC GUIDELINES:

ONE

Make sure you read the submission guidelines. Each festival or contest is different. If you’re asked for a link, don’t send your social media page or anything other than a link. We should be able to click on this link and begin watching your video.

TWO

Start your set when you take the stage, not with a long host intro. Time is valuable as festivals often receive hundreds of submissions or more. If you’re asked for 5 minutes submit 5 minutes. Do not submit a montage or greatest hits unless submissions allow that, most don’t.

FOUR

Don’t give it up for the host. It’s not a joke, and it’s not part of your set. How do you think the audience feels being asked for the 11th time on one show to give it up for the host? What did the host do? Announce your name and not trip on the stage to deserve an applause break? It’s a rookie mistake don’t do it.
